CHINS (Child In Need of Supervision)


About the Program:

  • Available to youth ages 12-17

  • Can be referred by parent/caretaker or school district, or other agency

  • Application/ intake process

  • CHINS Prevention services are provided at no charge

  • Case management service may include:

    • Intervention/education programming

    • Counseling

    • Weekly check-ins

    • Monitoring of school attendance/grades

    • Substance use reporting

Pre-CHINS is an assessment process for referral or prevention of placement of youth who:

  • Have not reached their 17th birthday

  • Are habitually absent from school or have run away from home

  • Habitually disobey reasonable and lawful demands of their parents

  • Or are ungovernable and beyond control.
